What does a trip to the Dentist and BOTOX® have in Common?
Now they can be one in the same! In 2012, the Georgia Board of Dentistry began licensing Dentists, with approved training and licensure, to use Botox® and Injectable fillers (like Juvederm®) in their practice. For years, dentists have questioned why their field was not allowed to use these products in their daily practice. We, as dentists, give hundreds of injections weekly in the facial region, probably more than any other licensed practitioner in that area of the body. WHY BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a manufactured injectable medication used therapeutically to reduce the strength of the targeted muscles. The active molecule is a highly refined purified protein. Yes, it binds to muscles, not the nerves; therefore, there will be no loss of sensation.
